Bail has been denied for a Russellville woman who has been charged with capital murder in the arson death of her 6-year old son.

Christy Scott, 30, has been charged in the death of her son, Mason Scott, in an August 16 fire on Signore Drive in Russellville.  Another son, a 4-year-old, escaped the home during the blaze, which was reported to fire officials at 2:20 a.m.

The Alabama State Fire Marshals Office investigated the fire along with the Russellville police and fire departments and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

The case was presented to a grand jury in Franklin County, which returned the indictment,” State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk said. “It was our opinion that this fire was deliberately set by the accused.” 

Scott surrendered to Russellville police today. Bail was denied at her initial appearance in court.
